Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.                                   --Edith Sitwell

Happy Holidays!

We would like to express many thanks to all of the LCMS families for the special Thanksgiving feast!  What a festive time it was, singing songs, eating homemade dishes, and giving thanks to one another.

It was also very special to see some of our very own alumni!

Alex and Nemina, Maya’s parents, visited the class with a special presentation on Hanukkah.  They taught us the history of the holiday and the meaning behind lighting the Menorah each day.  The children had fun playing with the Dreidel, singing festive songs, and tasting potato latkes with applesauce and sour cream!

In the classroom, we have been focusing on how to resolve problems peacefully. The children have been learning how to ask politely to join other friends, how to listen to others, how to patiently wait a turn, and how to respect one another’s space.  Montessori calls these lessons, “grace and courtesy”.  These lessons will help children navigate friendships and relationships through their lives.  Children will always look up to and follow the actions of older friends, siblings, parents, and teachers.  Parents are encouraged to understand and help foster these types of activities outside the classroom setting.

This month’s curriculum included:

- Science: Forest animals

- Geography: Animals in African Savannah

- Art: mono print, marble painting

- Music: Winter by Vivaldi

- Language: Reinforcing the sound of the week using Sandpaper Letters and Movable Alphabets

Math: Addition using the Strip Board for the older children

Wishing all of you a healthy and happy holiday season!
