September 2019

We would like to extend a warm welcome to the new families of our Little Crane community and welcome back all of our returning children!

The new school year is already off to a great start.

To begin a successful 2019-20 school year, we would like to highlight the following:

Greeting & Dismissal: When you would like to relay a message or ask questions to a teacher before or during school hours (ex: early pick up, class absence, travel) please provide a written note. This pertains particularly during the morning hours as we would like to focus our attention on the children’s safety as they walk down the main staircase. We would like to refrain from long conversations with parents during morning greeting to avoid any accidents.

Lunch program: Please refrain from any foods containing nuts and sesame (ex: hummus), and include an ice pack besides utensils in a lunch box if the lunch box contains milk, yogurt, cheese or any other foods that require refrigeration.

Snack: begins on Monday September 16th.  Once a month, each family will be asked to supply a snack for the class on a rotational basis. It is our policy to serve wholesome, nutritious foods in order to encourage healthy eating habitsPlease refrain from providing snacks containing nuts, sesame, popcorn, tortilla chips, chocolates, artificial ingredients or foods that have a high salt, sugar of fat content.

Examples of appropriate snack items include cut fruits and vegetables and home baked items.  If you bring in homemade snacks, please attach a note with the ingredients

Sharing: On your child’s snack day he or she will have the opportunity to share one object.  Please help your child pick an object that starts with the “sound of the week”, and include three written clues to help the class guess what the object is.  Sharing is an opportunity for the child to cultivate confidence through public speaking. The following is an example of a sharing object and its clues: monkey

clue 1  I am an animal.

                                                      clue 2  I have a long tail.

clue 3  I live in trees.

Library: Library will begin on Wednesday, September 25th.  Every child will select a book to bring home on Wednesday.  Please return the book by the following Monday

Labeling: Please put your child’s name on the tag or inner collar of his or her outerwear to avoid any confusion.

Last but not least, we would like to give a warm welcome to our wonderful new teacher, Norah Logue!  Below are a few words from Norah:

I am a NJ Certified Elementary School teacher with her degree from Montclair State in Early Childhood Education.  I have taught children of all ages ranging from Preschool through Middle School, including Middle School Science. My experience includes working as the director of a daycare in Butler, teaching in Catholic schools, teaching in small local preschools, and teaching gymnastics for the past 9 years.  I live in Glen Rock and I enjoy sewing, baking and spending time with my three children.

Norah is so excited to work with our children at Little Crane Montessori School!
